Read This! Oscar picks 2007
Movie buffs Jasmine Ta and Noveed Safipour share their picks for the 2007 Oscars.
Uhh..
You spent ten minutes staring at my journalism sweater? I don't know how I should feel about that... try listening to the dialogue.
And, I agree with Noveed. If anyone has strong feelings about an Oscar nomination, feel free to comment.
I forgot to mention in the videocast that I don't believe Mark Wahlberg should be nominated for best supporting actor in 'The Departed.' He just basically played the good 'bad' cop. If anyone should be nominated, it should be Jack Nichols for his performance as a manipulative drug addict. He scared the wits out of me. Anyone disagree?
Aww...
...I'm kind of disappointed you didn't listen too closely to what was said. I wanted to see if you would catch and call me out on a little mistake I made. :-p
I want to apologize to any Oscar buffs and any raging Leonardo di Caprio fanatics out there (tangent: Are girls still going crazy over him like they were in 5th grade?) for misreporting the year he was nominated for the Aviator--it was not last year, but rather 2005.
That being said, I hope everyone enjoys our thoughts! If anyone else has any strong opinions about the nominees this year, both Jasmine and I would enjoy hearing them.
Lol
Well...
Best Movie... I don't want Miss Sunshine to win. The movie was great, but it didn't seem... I don't know... serious enough. So I'll go with Babel, since I didn't see the others. (Personally though, I dislike all of the nominees, I wanted to see The Prestige up there)
Best Performance for a leading actor... Will Smith for Pursuit of Happyness. Movies with a childlike innocence and purity theme always get me.
Best Performance for a leading actress... ha... I didn't see any of these movies except The Devil Wears Prada, but Streep does not deserve an Oscar for THAT movie. Worst ending ever; ok I';ve toiled for you and gave up everything, but NOW I've decided to give it all up to go back to being a loser. Yeah, kinda late.
Best Performance for a supporting actor... Eddie Murphy. He actually acted for once. Wow, I have two black people on this list already!
Best Performance for a supporting actress... Rinko Kikuchi. "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes." Go Holden. That little girl doesn't deserve an Oscar. Child actors don't deserve Oscars because they usually don't understand the gravity of what they're doing and the instant they become old, their innocent allure will wear off they'll be advertising Check Into Cash or anti-acne cream.
Best Animated Film? WTF. This category should not exist. And wtf? ONLY AMERICAN MOVIES?!?!? They're just feeding the industry. None of these movies were any good. Cars, I guess. Happy Feet was just a bunch of cute penguins without a real plotline. I still don't see how the story is supposed to make us go: ohhh.
Best Foreign Film. WTF? No Fearless? WHAT A GIP! Fine! Pan's Labyrinth for it's pedophiliac undertones.
Adapted Screenplay. If Borat wins, I will never watch the Oscars again. They will be mud in my eyes! I pick Children of Men. They should probably put that up for best film though. I didn't think it was anything to rave about but others have.
Original Screenplay. Babel or Pan's Labyrinth. I could go either way.
Achievement in Art Direction. Another cookie cutter category. THE PRESTIGE! Let that movie win SOMETHING!
Achievement in Costume Design. Marie Antoinette. Duh. Dunst had a new outfit on ever 5 minutes. And despite how much I loved Curse of a Golden Flower, the costumes were corny.
Best Documentary. I hate all of these. The Inconvenient Truth is inconveniently long and hyped about. WOW! AL GORE INVENTS GLOBAL WARMING JUST LIKE HE DID THE INTERNET. I'll pick Iraq in Fragments because all the others hit on religion and controversial movies rarely win (unless you're promoting a minority or a well-established controversial viewpoint).
Achievement in Film Editing.
Achievement in Makeup. Apocalyptico. These guys were covered head to toe in the stuff. Though Pan's Labyrinth was impressive too... it looked a bit tacky.
Best Music. All the music sucked. Pan's Labyrinth, I guess. It was sort of creepy. I liked Pirates or the Caribbean's music.
Best Song. One of the Dreamgirls ones.
Best Animated Short. *Shrug*
Best Short. *Shrug*
Best Sound Editing and Sound Mixing. I don't know the difference, and since Pirates is in both, I'll pick them.
Advancement in Visual Effects. Pirates I guess. 90% animated. Almost doesn't deserve to be a live action.
There.
